Oh shoot! the Korean Bible Society!

MY favourite online Bible is BibleGateWay.Com and today, I tried to look up some Korean verse today. And there was no result which is very weird.

Then I tried Xiphos, a Bible programme formerly known as SWORD. Because I re-installed my Ubuntu, I installed this programme and its modules, i.e. the language versions of Bible. There was no Korean module. There was Korean module!

So I googled both problems and found.

BibleGateWay says:

We’re sorry but the following version has been removed: Korean Bible

And the SWORD develop mailing list says it was also removed because of copyright problem. Though the BibleGateWay does not say anything about the reason but probably the same reason because the timing of removal is very good.

A Bible Society must do every effort to spread the Word of God, and now the Korean Bible Society stopped many sources of it because of copyright which eventually means money.

  1. I’m really upset at how people want to profit off of God’s word. As the Korean language Bible goes, so goes Hangul as well… Forget protection of copyrights, protect Christianity in Korea!

  2. Hey, I just googled “bible gateway korean” and came across this post.

I don’t know much about international copyright issues so I can’t really say anything….. but I thought maybe you’d like to know a Korean site that supports Korean Bible search. Since your Korean is amazing(I highly suspect that you’re korean)you’ll be able to manage around 😉

There are four different korean versions of the Bible and it also has NIV, NASV, KJV. Hope this helps.

  3. Thanks.I also found that site.

I am not against the commercialisation of the Bibles because we are all living in the world of capitalism. But I am against anything that is standing in the way of the spreading the Word of God.
