One percent inspiration

The famous American inventor and founder of General Electronics Thomas Edison one day said:

Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.

What did he really want to say? I do not think he wanted to say that the importance of perspiration which is effort. Any one can do ninety-nine percent effort but not every one can have one percent inspiration. That is to say, he was emphasising the impossibility of being genius for the other people.

What makes the difference between the genius and the normal people? One percent inspiration. I heard that the DNA of human and chimpanzee is almost the same but slightly different. Yes, the slight difference makes human and makes chimpanzee.

I guess what Thomas Edison really wanted to say is that “Even though you guys try and do what kind of effort (ninety-nine percent perspiration), you cannot be like me.”
