Narnia in the wardrobe

Filed under: Lang:English,Subj:Christianity,Subj:Culture — Jemyoung Leigh @ 15:00

I saw a movie “the Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” I like this movie very very much for two reason:

First, the accent and pronunciation in the movie are of England. I don’t sure about the voice actors, but most of the actors in this movie are British ones because the background of the movie is England in World War II.

And the other reason I like this movie so much is that I can find some biblical factors through this movie. Such as the sacrifice of Jesus, and His resurrection.

Most favourite character in this movie is definitely and absolutely ‘Lucy Pevensie.’ She is incredibly pretty and cute. Her real name is ‘Georgie Henley,’ and was nine year old when she was taking the movie, and she is from West Yorkshire. She looks so pure in the movie (maybe because she is youngest). The actress of the Queen Lucy the Valiant (adult) is Georgie’s real sister, Rachel Henley.

The most kid actress in the world must be Dakota Fanning of “I am Sam,” “Man on fire,” and “War of the Worlds.” But I think and believe Georgie Henley is far much (about thousand times?) cuter and prettier than she. Anyway this is not the point.

The biblical factors I found are:

  • The crack of stone table: Matthew 27:51 says “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;” The difference is that the time – In the movie, the table cracked in the resurrection but in the Bible, the veil rent in the death of Jesus. Both showed me the earth quake.
  • The sacrifice of Aslan: Aslan died instead of Edmund, but Jesus in the real died and sacrificed for the sins of the whole world, not just for only one. John 1:29 says “…. Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!
  • The resurrection of Aslan: The difference is that Jesus rose again in the third day, and Aslan did in the next day.
  • The two girls in the spot of resurrection: That is different in each gospels, but in Matthew 28:1 says “…. came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.” Two women in the Bible, and two girls in the movie – Lucy and Susan.
  • The frozen warriors: After resurrection of Aslan, he melted and revive warriors in the war before. As such Jesus did for the ones of Old Testament which is said in 1 Peter 3:19, “By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
  • Four thrones: Before the four go into Narnia, Aslan built the Castle Cair Paravel with four thrones. Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I form thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” And also the believers and victors in Christ will sit on the throne with Jesus as it is written in Revelation 3:21.
  • Being shaved of Aslan: The hair of lion is like garment. John 19:23 says “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments, and made four parts…
  • Deep magic: Aslan was ‘there’ then the deep magic was written and Narnia was built. John 1:1-3 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…. All things were made by Him….

Well, the movie is not Bible, and Aslan is not Jesus. But the lion stands for Jesus. As a result, I became BIG FAN of Georgie Henley, the actress of Lucy Pevensie of Narnia.
